Oswestry School

About Oswestry School

For those of you not familiar with the School’s heritage, it was founded in 1407 by David Holbache and was originally sited in the building currently known as the Heritage Centre in the grounds of The Church of St Oswald’s King and Martyr. We are delighted to report that this building has recently been taken back into the ownership of Oswestry School.

With the exception of the local parish church, our School, as an institution, has probably the longest links with the community in the town and we look forward to the town celebrating our 600th birthday with us. It promises to be an exceptional year.

About the School

All pupils are encouraged to establish ‘the roots to grow and the wings to fly’. Our aim is to develop to the full the talents of every one of our pupils and to promote their intellectual, moral, spiritual, academic, physical, cultural and social development – qualities they will need in order to confidently and productively take their place in the complex and ever-changing society in which we live.

We see ourselves very much as a family school. Indeed, just like generations of Oswestrians before them, many children and siblings will attend Oswestry School for their complete schooling - a factor which contributes so much to stability and security. Pupils also join us from other schools at different stages of their educational progress.

Set in 50 acres of attractive grounds, the School overlooks the old market town of Oswestry and the broad reach of the Shropshire plain. There is easy access to the motorways of the Midlands, yet the hills and lakes of the Welsh borderland are barely a mile away. It is an ideal setting in which young people may grow and develop.

Oswestry School offers a complete education for life, helping pupils realise their full potential by:

Providing a secure setting with individual attention and a mixture of traditional and modern teaching methods; thus the imagination can be kindled and academic potential fulfilled.

Developing spiritual, intellectual, physical, cultural and social qualities in each individual.

Creating a community of well-balanced young people who are fully prepared for the challenges and responsibilities of the outside world.

Promoting an atmosphere of friendship and trust, where consideration is shown and tolerance exercised.

Instilling a spirit of service, cultivating self-motivation and self-discipline as the basis of leadership at all levels.
